What she does: Embroiderer
Impact: Fair wages for women embroiderers working from home in Delhi and greater security for her family

Farida works as a skilled embroider from her home in Delhi, producing clothes for UK high street stores. Despite initial reservations from her husband a few years ago she joined the Self Employed Women’s Association – a membership organisation of over one million women workers. SEWA link high street companies such as New Look and Monsoon to buy directly from women embroiderers who work at home. Through Farida, and women like her at SEWA, 1,000 women including are now paid on time and have seen their wages double. Farida has created a more financially secure environment for herself, her husband and her four children and is now able to send her children to school. She is a strong and creative leader inspiring other women in her community to join SEWA.
