Mrs Konate Waly Kante lives in a small village inMali. Nianzana is home to less than 300 people. Mrs Kante manages her household of five children, tends to a small field of millet and ground nuts, and sells items at the weekly market. In addition to this, she is a member and a leader of the local savings and loan group, Jèkafo, supported by Plan.
Jèkafo has 20 members, Mrs Kante is the first agent to engage new communities in the savings programme which builds upon the resources of members to benefit all. She works with women in other villages to share with them the benefit of the savings and loan programme. She provides training in credit management, environmental health and the fight against malaria.
