Arts and Media

The arts and media play a fundamental role in shaping how we understand and engage with the world. Artists, writers, journalists, comediennes can have a great impact in challenging stereotypes and preconceptions and opening up new ways of seeing. We’ve also seen this year how new types of media can challenge authority and provide alternative ways of organising. The women nominated in this category have made a difference in a range of ways: from raising awareness about caste discrimination to investigating police corruption.

The women are listed in no particular order.
